Insists that the European Fisheries Fund (EFF) should continue to grant aid to improve the selectivity of fishing gear and to replace engines on grounds of safety, environmental protection and/or fuel economy – above all for small-scale coastal and traditional fishermen; calls on the Commission to draw up a medium- and long-term plan aimed at improving fuel efficiency in the fisheries (including aquaculture) sector; calls, further, on the Commission to include, in its forthcoming proposals on the reform of the CFP and, in particular, its proposal for a regulation on the reform of the EFF, suitable measures to improve fuel efficiency in the fisheries and aquaculture sector;
6. insiste pour que le Fonds européen pour la pêche (FEP) continue d'octroyer en priorité à la petite pêche côtière et artisanale des aides visant à améliorer la sélectivité des engins de pêche et à remplacer les moteurs pour des raisons de sécurité, de protection de l'environnement ou d'économies de carburant; invite la Commission à préparer un plan à long et moyen terme pour améliorer l'efficacité énergétique dans le secteur de la pêche (aquaculture comprise); l'invite en outre à inclure, dans ses prochaines propositions de réforme du la politique commune de la pêche et, notamment, dans sa proposition de règlement réformant le FEP, des mesures adéquates pour améliorer l'efficacité énergétique dans le secteur de la pêche et de l'aquaculture;

Member States shall submit to the Commission their requests for revision of the operational programme, affecting the European Fisheries Fund (EFF) contribution for the ongoing year, by 30 September of that year at the latest.

We believe that the European Fisheries Fund needs proper restructuring, as proposed by the Commission. We do not, however, believe that fisheries policy requires increased appropriations.
