In this context of encouraging European exports to Japan, Mr DE CLERCQ reminded his partners in the discussions of the importance of giving a greater role to European banks which have set up in business in Japan and hoped that these banks could provide, in conjunction with the Bank of Japan, competitive financing facilities in the short term for exporting European firms.
