It was truly a team effort on the part of the Ukrainian community, the Taras Shevchenko Foundation, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, the Ukrainian Civil Liberties Association and the thousands of Canadians of Ukrainian descent who have worked on this redress issue for over two decades.

I, together with my colleagues Dr. Lubomyr Luciuk, representing the Ukrainian Canadian Civil Liberties Association, and Mr. Andrew Hladyshevsky, representing the Ukrainian Canadian Foundation of Taras Shevchenko, am here today to present to you the common and united position of the Ukrainian Canadian community as it relates to Bill C-331, the Ukrainian Canadian Restitution Act, and a related agreement with the Government of Canada.

I am happy to be here today, as a witness for the Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, to have the opportunity to discuss the efforts initiated by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress and the Canadian Ukrainian community, aimed at building close ties between Canada and Ukraine. I am also happy to share certain observations for your study on new developments in the field of politic, social, economic and security issues in Ukraine, on Canada's interests and politics in the region, as well as on other related subjects.
Il me fait plaisir de comparaître devant le Comité sénatorial permanent des affaires étrangères afin de vous donner un aperçu des efforts déployés par le Congrès des Ukrainiens canadiens et la communauté ukrainienne canadienne en vue de tisser des liens étroits entre le Canada et l'Ukraine, et de vous faire part de certaines observations pour les fins de votre étude des faits nouveaux en matière de politique, de questions sociales, d'économie et de sécurité en Ukraine, les politiques et les intérêts du Canada dans la région, ainsi que d'autres sujets connexes.
