Many of the people who are now protesting did not bother to come to the debate last night when Commissioner Mandelson, at my request, clarified to Parliament the assurances that a formal notice will be published in the Official Journal before the entry into force of this regulation, giving a clear interpretation of the regulation from the Commission’s point of view and very concrete and strict criteria (which happens on competition issues) to enforce these measures, in the interests of the consumers of Europe.
De nombreux députés qui protestent aujourd'hui ne se sont pas donné la peine d'assister au débat d'hier soir, lorsque Monsieur le Commissaire Mandelson, à ma demande, a donné au Parlement l'assurance qu'une notice formelle serait publiée dans le journal officiel avant l'entrée en vigueur de ce règlement, donnant une interprétation claire de ce règlement du point de vue de la Commission et fournissant des critères concrets et stricts (comme souvent en matière de concurrence) pour faire appliquer ces mesures dans l'intérêt des consommateurs européens.
