I am happy our Bloc colleague brought this motion to the floor because it needs to be debated. The government's legislation needs to be challenged and I want to serve notice that I will be voting with my Bloc colleagues in support of this motion.

I am pleased to rise today to speak to the motion brought forward by our colleagues from the Bloc, a motion which, once again, if one analyses it—and it need not be a thorough analysis—is designed essentially to deceive the people of Quebec and to launch a constitutional debate on a fundamental issue. Moreover, the Bloc wants to do that at the expense of future generations, of students who, tomorrow, will form the Canadian society that we are building today.
Il me fait plaisir de prendre la parole aujourd'hui sur la motion qui a été soulevée par nos amis du Bloc, motion qui, encore une fois, lorsque vous l'analysez—et pas besoin de l'analyser avec beaucoup de profondeur et beaucoup d'attention—vise essentiellement à leurrer la population du Québec et à faire en sorte qu'on puisse entamer un débat constitutionnel autour d'une question qui pourtant est fondamentale et, en plus, sur le dos des générations à venir, des étudiantes et des étudiants qui, demain, formeront la société canadienne que nous sommes en train d'édifier à l'heure actuelle.

This motion was passed unanimously in the House as a consequence of debate on the motion brought forward by the then Bloc Quebecois member of parliament for Ahuntsic.
