The European Union expresses its strong concern about the recent escalation of violence in the border region between FRY/Kosovo and FYROM, and in particular the exchange of fire in the village of Tanusevci on Monday afternoon.

5. Calls on all the neighbouring countries and all the political forces concerned to respect the agreement concluded on 23 February 2001 between FRY/Kosovo and FYROM on the details of the frontier between the two countries; stresses that the territorial integrity of all countries in the region and the inviolability of their borders are essential preconditions for stability, economic development and the coexistence of cultures and religious beliefs;

The Central and Eastern European countries associated with the European Union, the associated countries Cyprus, Malta and Turkey, and the EFTA countries Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, members of the European Economic Area, declare that they subscribe to the declaration by the European Union on violent incidents on the border between FRY/Kosovo and FYROM, published in Brussels and Stockholm, 28 February 2001.

B. extremely alarmed by the escalating tension on the border between FYROM and the FRY/Kosovo, in particular in the area around the village of Tanusevci in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, and by the attacks by ethnic Albanian extremists against the police and the soldiers of FYROM and the KFOR forces,

C. deeply concerned that the situation on the border between FYROM and the FRY/Kosovo could destabilise the internal situation in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and endanger the peaceful development of the whole area,

4. Calls for full compliance with and implementation of UN Security Council resolution 1244; calls on KFOR to guarantee stability, security and the disarmament of the extremist Albanian-speaking groups along the entire length of the frontier between FYROM and FRY/Kosovo;
4. demande que soit respectée et effectivement appliquée la résolution 1244 du Conseil de sécurité des Nations unies; demande que la KFOR garantisse la stabilité et la sécurité, ainsi que le désarmement des groupes extrémistes albanophones, tout le long de la frontière entre l'ARYM et la RFY/Kosovo;

The EU fully supports the agreements signed in Belgrade on 16 October 1998 between the FRY and the OSCE, and on 15 October 1998 between the FRY and NATO through negotiations mandated by the Contact Group on the basis of relevant SCRs, as an important step towards a political solution to the Kosovo crisis.
L'UE appuie pleinement les accord signés à Belgrade, le 16 octobre 1998, entre la RFY et l'OSCE et, le 15 octobre 1998, entre la RFY et l'OTAN à l'issue de négociations demandées par le Groupe de contact sur la base des résolutions pertinentes du Conseil de Sécurité des Nations Unies, accords qu'elle considère comme une avancée importante sur la voie d'un règlement politique de la crise du Kosovo.
