If the Irish have understood the situation properly, it seems to me that they have been happy for all of Europe to stand alongside Ireland when the financial storm almost carried Ireland away, and very happy for the President of the Commission to find a solution – something that was not easy – when first off the Irish Government had gone so far as to guarantee all the banks, all banking products, forgetting, just for a moment, that foreign banks in Ireland had to be treated in the same way as the Irish banks in Ireland.
Si les Irlandais ont bien compris la situation, c’est qu’ils ont été, me semble-t-il, heureux que toute l’Europe se range aux côtés de l’Irlande quand la tempête financière manquait d’emporter l’Irlande, et bien heureux que le président de la Commission trouve une solution - ce n’était pas si facile - lorsque dans un premier jet, le gouvernement irlandais avait été jusqu’à garantir toutes les banques, tous les produits des banques, omettant, l’espace d’un instant, que les banques étrangères installées en Irlande devaient être traitées de la même façon que les banques irlandaises, elles aussi installées en Irlande.
