– (FR) Mr President, Commissioner, ladies and gentlemen, by withdrawing parliamentary immunity from three opposition members of parliament – including our friend Sam Rainsy, whom a number of us have met – who had drawn attention to what was currently happening in Cambodia and had denounced the gangrene of corruption in their country, Cambodia has once again shown itself to be a very inadequate democracy indeed, in which autocracy imposes an arbitrary governance on political, social and economic life.
- Monsieur le Président, Monsieur le Commissaire, chers collègues, en retirant l’immunité parlementaire de trois députés de l’opposition - dont notre ami Sam Rainsy, que certains d’entre nous ont rencontré - qui ont attiré l’attention sur ce qui se passe actuellement au Cambodge et qui dénoncent la gangrène de la corruption dans leur pays, le Cambodge s’est illustré une nouvelle fois comme une bien piètre démocratie, où l’autocratie fait régner l’arbitraire sur la vie politique mais aussi économique et sociale.
