4.8.8. The importance of preventing macro-economic imbalances giving rise to measures which damage the process of regional integration in MERCOSUR and have potentially harmful effects on third countries has been emphasised by the decision of the Argentine government, as part of the adjustment plan introduced at the end of March 2001, temporarily to increase import duties on consumer goods to 35 % and to cut those applying to capital goods originating outside MERCOSUR to 0 %.
