12. Regrets that the European Council conclusions do not take into account that the fragile recovery process now underway must be fully reflected in a new 2020 strategy, by formulating a coherent and encompassing policy agenda which fully integrates the macroeconomic policy stance into this strategy in such a way as to ensure that necessary budgetary consolidation will not undermine the achievement of the strategy, especially with regard to the fight against unemployment, as well as adequate and well coordinated investment in infrastructures and knowledge; is alarmed by the conclusions of the Council of 9 May calling for a strong commitment to accelerated fiscal consolidation, which will undermine the political commitments contained in the Europe 2020 strategy, threaten the maintenance of sufficiently strong and fair welfare states, and jeopardize the still fragile recovery process, and may, therefore, lead to an additional loss of several million jobs over the medium term;

In this time of crisis, the scale and effects of which are stressful and will unfortunately be long-lasting, I should like to highlight the importance of Europe’s coordinated response. The latter is not only more obvious now than it has ever been before, but it is also crucial when it comes to providing support for investment in major infrastructure projects, in order to stimulate our European economy.
En cette période de crise, dont l’ampleur et les effets sont anxiogènes et seront malheureusement durables, je veux souligner l’importance de la réponse coordonnée de l’Europe, qui est non seulement plus que jamais évidente, mais qui est également indispensable pour le soutien des investissements aux grandes infrastructures, afin de stimuler notre économie européenne.

This is, in my view, a very good thing. In the regions we live in, individual infrastructure projects are now, of course, the subject of heated debate.
Chez nous, dans notre région, nous discutons bien sûr énormément certains de ces projets d’infrastructure.
