Mr Albertini is accused of aggravated defamation since – in the words of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Brescia (statement on the conclusion of the investigations of 26 June 2014) – “he made claims in respect of Mr Alfredo Robledo – the deputy prosecutor at the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office – concerning a series of events, inferring that he had repeatedly committed offences in the course of the investigations that had been entrusted to him including, inter alia, abuse of office, failure to act, use of violence and perverting the course of justice”.

In short, Mr Albertini was accused of assisting in tabling false amendments for consideration by the municipal council, signed by members of the political majority and unlawfully intended to prevent discussion of as many as possible of the amendments tabled by the opposition.
