The fight against match-fixing, as one of the most serious threats to the integrity of sport, is part of the Commission priorities in the areas of sport, the fight against corruption, and online gambling as regards betting-related match-fixing.[9] The European Parliament also adopted a number of relevant resolutions.[10] The Council adopted Conclusions in this area in November 2011.[11] The work of the Expert Group on Good Governance (XG GG) represented an important step in the process towards improving cross-sector cooperation and coordination at EU and international level, as it gathered for the first time all relevant stakeholders at EU level.
La lutte contre les matchs truqués, qui constituent l’une des menaces les plus sérieuses pour l’intégrité du sport, fait partie des priorités de la Commission dans les domaines du sport, de la lutte contre la corruption et des paris en ligne, dans le contexte des matchs truqués en lien avec les paris[9]. Le Parlement européen a également adopté plusieurs résolutions pertinentes en la matière[10]. Le Conseil a adopté des conclusions dans ce domaine en novembre 2011[11]. Les travaux du groupe d’experts sur la bonne gouvernance ont constitué une étape importante du processus visant à améliorer la coopération transsectorielle et la coordination aux niveaux européen et international, en rassemblant pour la première fois l’ensemble des acteurs concernés au niveau de l’Union.

Welcomes the fact that the Fifth International Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sport (MINEPS) will address the issue of integrity in sport and the fight against match-fixing, and believes this is a good forum in which to address the need for a global body dealing with match-fixing, and in which all the relevant actors can meet, exchange information, coordinate their action and promote concepts of good governance;

The future Convention will aim at creating an international legal framework for the prevention of and fight against the manipulation of sports results, notably match-fixing; the objective of the Convention should be to enhance international cooperation in this context and to set up a monitoring mechanism to ensure that the provisions laid down in the Convention are followed-up in an effective way.
