The foundation would be similar in nature to those literacy foundations already established through the endowment funding program established by Treasury Board and operating in partnership with the National Literacy Secretariat, building upon the broad focus of the program and its committed partnership of 27 national health organizations, its strong links to the literacy community in Canada, and notably, its experience of hosting the first Canadian conference on literacy and health, “Charting the Course for Literacy and Health in the New Millennium”, in May 2000.
Cette fondation s'inspirerait des fondations pour l'alphabétisation qui ont déjà été créées grâce au programme de fonds de dotation qui a été mis sur pied par le Conseil du Trésor et qui travaille en partenariat avec le Secrétariat national à l'alphabétisation, en mettant à profit l'aspect prioritaire du programme de même que le partenariat qui lui assure la participation active de 27 associations nationales de la santé, ses liens solides avec le milieu canadien de l'alphabétisation et, plus particulièrement, l'expérience qu'il a acquise à titre d'hôte de la première conférence canadienne sur l'alphabétisation et la santé, «Cap sur l'alphabétisation et la santé pendant le nouveau millénaire», tenue en mai 2000.
