A road map laying down the main strategies that the country must adopt in order to be in a position to join the EU was adopted in December 2002 at the Copenhagen European Council and, with Bulgaria making progress on the road to accession, the Committee of the Regions decided to set up a Joint Consultative Committee with the country. The purpose of the EU-Slovenia Joint Consultative Committee is to prepare the ground for EU enlargement by promoting dialogue between EU and Slovenian socio-occupational organizations and assisting the Association Council by producing reports and opinions which present the views of the economic and social interest groups in the European Union and in Slovenia (The JCC is made up of an equal number of civil society representatives from the EU and Slovenia.)
