– (FR) Mr President, I would like to thank all the committee members who worked alongside the rapporteur, Mrs Gál, on these areas, as well as all those MEPs who took the floor today in this House, thereby showing that fundamental rights are very important. I can only support what has already been said by several MEPs, namely that it is high time that we focused on fundamental rights within the European Union in order to be credible and be able to talk about fundamental rights outside the European Union.
− Monsieur le Président, je voudrais remercier, autour de Mme la rapporteure, tous les membres de la commission qui ont travaillé sur ces domaines ainsi que tous les parlementaires qui sont intervenus aujourd’hui dans cette enceinte, montrant par là que les droits fondamentaux sont très importants et je ne peux que soutenir ce qui a été dit par plusieurs parlementaires, c’est-à-dire qu’il est grand temps que nous nous occupions des droits fondamentaux dans l’Union européenne pour avoir une crédibilité et pouvoir parler des droits fondamentaux hors de l’Union européenne.

– (FR) I have always called for, and I already included this in my election programme for the 2009 European elections, the introduction of a minimum income equivalent to 60% of the average income for each citizen of the Union. Today, however, this House has unfortunately voted against this legislative proposal at Community level.
– J’ai toujours réclamé, et cela figurait déjà dans mon programme électoral des élections européennes de 2009, l’introduction d’un revenu minimal équivalant à 60 % du revenu moyen pour chaque citoyen de l’Union, mais aujourd’hui l’assemblée n’a malheureusement pas voté cette initiative législative au niveau communautaire.

The Socialist Group in the European Parliament, whom I represent, supports the compromise reached and has not tabled any amendments for the plenary. We are fully in favour of the position as presented today in this House and, as such, we will vote in favour of it.

It is in fact Parliament that is the heart of the European parties, for it was in Parliament that the need arose to develop commonalities within Europe, and, if you bear in mind that 133 political parties are represented today in this House, united in seven political families, that alone shows how there are no limits to the work done for Europe, in this House, by the political groups, which, in the European Parliament, bring together the states whose political parties are elected to the European Parliament.
Le Parlement est en effet le cœur des partis européens, car c’est au Parlement qu’est née la nécessité de dégager des points communs au sein de l’Europe. Le simple fait que 133 partis politiques soient actuellement représentés dans cette Assemblée, réunis en sept familles politiques, suffit à vous montrer qu’il n’y a pas de limites au travail accompli ici pour l’Europe par les groupes politiques, qui réunissent, dans cette enceinte, les États dont les partis politiques sont élus au Parlement européen.

(10) The Jean Monnet and Robert Schuman houses are meeting places for the people of Europe, the aim being to set the pioneers and pioneering activities of European integration in the context in which two of the founding fathers of Europe lived and worked, and to provide information on today's and tomorrow's Europe; as such, these organisations pursue an aim of general European interest.
