However, no mention was made of this measure during the informal consultation on smoke-free policies at EU level (closing date: 14 June) organised by the Directorate-General for Health and Consumer Protection.

Stresses that it is the legal duty of all employers to provide their employees with a safe and healthy working environment; notes that the exception in the Bureau's rules allowing smoking in offices results in an unacceptable level of indoor pollution due to tobacco smoke in buildings and corridors containing offices, with a concomitant risk to the health of those buildings' occupants; notes that the Institution's buildings in the three places of work are subject to national health and safety provisions; urges the College of Quaestors to designate a clearly defined and well ventilated smoking area so as to limit nuisance for non-smokers;

(5) As research and experience in other countries which have adopted health warnings with colour photographs has proved, health warnings which include colour photographs or other illustrations can be an effective means of discouraging smoking and informing citizens about the health risks related to smoking.
(5) Les études réalisées et les résultats obtenus par d'autres pays ayant adopté des avertissements relatifs à la santé accompagnés de photographies en couleurs ont fait apparaître que les avertissements faisant appel à des photographies en couleurs ou à d'autres illustrations peuvent constituer un moyen efficace de décourager le tabagisme et d'informer les citoyens sur les risques sanitaires liés à la consommation de tabac.

5. The authorisation holder shall inform the Commission immediately of any new scientific or technical information which might affect the assessment of the safety of the authorised primary product or derived smoke flavourings in relation to human health.

I am in favour of a targeted information campaign, especially for young people, in order to make them aware of the dangers of smoking to their health. But I am against all the exaggerations contained in this report and am therefore unable to vote in favour of the report as it stands.
Je suis partisane d’une campagne d’information ciblée, s’adressant en particulier aux jeunes, pour attirer leur attention sur les dangers que présente le tabagisme pour leur santé, mais je suis opposée à toutes les exagérations contenues dans ce rapport et c’est pourquoi je ne voterai pas en faveur du rapport dans sa forme actuelle.
