Mr. Crête (Kamouraska–Rivière-du-Loup), seconded by Mrs. Tremblay (Rimouski–Témiscouata), moved Motion No. 43, — That Bill C–44, in Clause 24, be amended by replacing lines 40 to 44 on page 15 with the following: “a port is limited to the power to engage directly or indirectly in the port activities of shipping, navigation and the handling and storage of goods as well as activities necessary to support port operations and a port authority may, in particular, by itself, or with other bodies, construct, maintain and operate highways, railways, ships, factories and equipment and may generally undertake activities and exercise the powers it considers necessary for the effective administration, management and control of the port, the works and other properties placed under its authority”.

Crête (Kamouraska–Rivière-du-Loup), appuyé par M Tremblay (Rimouski–Témiscouata), propose la motion n 43, — Que le projet de loi C–44, à l’article 24, soit modifié par substitution, aux lignes 43 à 45, page 15, et aux lignes 1 et 2, page 16, de ce qui suit : « portuaires directement ou indirectement liées à la navigation, au transport des passagers et des marchandises, et à la manutention et l’entreposage des marchandises, ainsi qu’aux autres activités nécessaires aux opérations portuaires. Une administration portuaire peut notamment, par elle-même, ou de concert avec d’autres entités, construire, entretenir et exploiter des routes, des chemins de fer, des navires, une usine et de l’équipement, et peut généralement entreprendre les actions et exercer les pouvoirs qu’elle juge nécessaires à l’administration, à la gestion et au contrôle efficients du port, des travaux et des autres propriétés qui sont placés sous son autorité».
