The European Commission has cleared under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition of Kidde plc (“Kidde”) by the US technology company United Technologies Corporation (“UTC”).

- 2 - The commendations are as follows : * In the good environmental management category : - Cartonnerie de Lestrem, Lestrem, France for the elimination of effluent from a cardboard factory, and - British Gas plc, London, England for the reduction of environmental effects of an off-shore gas station at Morecambe Bay. * In the clean technology category : - Haldor Topsøoe A/s, Lyngby, Denmark for a process to remove sulphur and nitrogen oxides from flue gases and - Sollac Florange SA, Florange, France for the treatment and recirculation of acid waste from steel pickling. * In the clean Technology category there were many high quality projects but as they were not specifically concerned with clean technologies i.e. processes not giving rise to potentially polluting waste products, the European Jury felt unable to award a first prize. * In the Green Product Award the European jury felt unable to make an award or commend any entries since none of the projects submitted entirely fulfilled the criteria.
Les accessits ont été décernés aux entreprises suivantes : * catégorie bonne gestion de l'environnement : - Cartonnerie de Lestrem, Lestrem, France, pour l'élimination des effluents d'une cartonnerie, et - British Gas plc, Londres, Angleterre, pour la réduction des effets sur l'environnement d'un terminal de gazoduc offshore à Morecambe Bay; * catégorie des technologies propre : - Haldor Topsoe A/s, Lyngby, Danemark, pour un procédé d'élimination des oxydes de soufre et d'azote des gaz de combustion et - Soliac Florange SA, Florange, France, pour le traitement en circuit fermé des effluents de l'atelier de décapage chlorhydrique de tôles d'acier; * dans la catégorie "technologies propres", de nombreux projets de qualité ont été présentés; étant donné cependant qu'ils ne concernaient pas directement les technologies propres, c'est-à-dire des procédés ne donnant pas lieu à la production de déchets éventuellement polluants, le jury européen n'a pas été en mesure de décerner un premier prix; * dans la catégorie produits écologiques, le jury européen n'a pas été en mesure de décerner un prix ou un accessit, étant donné qu'aucun des projets présentés ne répondait complètement aux critères.
