In spite of LAC's huge potential, only some EU Member States continue to show high interest in the development of bi-regional relations. The agenda is predominantly pushed forward by Spain and Portugal; besides them France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom are the main trade partners of the region in the EU.
Malgré le potentiel considérable de la zone ALC, seuls quelques États membres continuent de rester très attachés au développement des relations entre les deux régions, principalement soutenu par l'Espagne et le Portugal; à leurs côtés, la France, l'Allemagne, l'Italie, les Pays-Bas et le Royaume-Uni sont les principaux partenaires de cette région au niveau de l'Union européenne.

(e) provide for the appointment of members of the EU-CAN Joint Parliamentary Committee to be set up under the new association agreement from among Members of the European Parliament and the Andean Parliament who also form part of the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly, as a practical expression of support for the process of regional integration in the Andean region and for the EU-LAC Biregional Strategic Association;
e) désigner les membres de la commission parlementaire mixte UE-CAN, laquelle sera créée en vertu du nouvel accord d'association, parmi les députés du Parlement européen et du Parlement andin faisant également partie de l'Assemblée parlementaire euro-latino-américaine, à titre de marque tangible du soutien au processus d'intégration régionale de la région andine et à l'association stratégique birégionale UE-ALC;

provide for the appointment of members of the European Union – Central America Joint Parliamentary Committee, which will be set up under the new association agreement, from among Members of the European Parliament and the Central American Parliament, from the national parliaments not yet belonging to any regional chamber and from EuroLat, as a practical expression of support for the regional integration process in Central America and for the EU-LAC Bi-regional Strategic Partnership;
