Points to the fact that the cultural and creative industries contribute to the maintenance and improvement of Europe’s immense cultural, historical, and architectural heritage; stresses the importance of movable cultural heritage, i.e. artefacts as products of human creativity throughout history up to the present day; highlights that the cultural and creative sectors are important for the development of the EU tourism industry and are of huge interest to tourists from both the EU and non-EU countries; believes, in view of this added value, that the cultural and creative sectors should be strongly supported by the future EU budget and through national and regional programming documents drawn up for the period 2014-2020, given that they bring with them important economic opportunities;

Points out that Regulation (EC) No 1080/2006 on the European Regional Development Fund numbers among its priorities the protection and enhancement of natural and cultural heritage as offering potential for the development of sustainable, high-quality tourism with a view to added value, stressing the importance of an integrated and coherent approach, thereby promoting economic growth and the creation of new jobs and helping to promote Europe as a favourite destination for visitors from both inside and outside the EU, highlighting its extraordinary cultural wealth, exemplified by UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and the exuberant natural beauty found in Natura 2000 sites across the EU; calls, in this context, for a clear commitment to increasing the promotion of tourism through the cohesion policy in the next programming period;

When programming rural and coastal development measures, Member States should recognise the role played by aquaculture in the local economy, for the maintenance of the social and cultural heritage of these areas, and for maintaining the population above critical levels. Its leverage role for the development of tourism should also be acknowledged.
Lors de la programmation des mesures de développement rural et côtier, les États membres doivent reconnaître le rôle joué par l'aquaculture pour les économies locales, pour la préservation de l'héritage social et culturel des régions, et pour le maintien de la population au-dessus des seuils critiques, ainsi que son rôle de levier dans le développement du tourisme.
