The new EU Timber Regulation to take effect in March 2013 will ban the sale of illegally harvested timber and related products into the EU, and is expected, together with the VPAs, to discourage illegal and unsustainable exploitation of forests and thus address one of the drivers of forest degradation.
Le nouveau règlement de l'Union sur le bois qui doit entrer en vigueur en mars 2013 interdit la vente, dans l'Union européenne, de bois et de produits dérivés du bois récolté illégalement et devrait, avec l'APV, décourager l'exploitation forestière illicite et non durable, supprimant ainsi l'un des moteurs de la dégradation des forêts.
