This Directive is intended to prohibit, at European Union level, tobacco advertising in print media, radio broadcasting, and information society services and the sponsorship, with a view to promoting tobacco products, of events with a cross-border effect.
La présente directive vise à interdire, au niveau de l’Union européenne, la publicité en faveur du tabac dans les médias imprimés, les émissions radiodiffusées et les services de la société de l’information. L'objectif est également de prohiber le parrainage de manifestations ayant un effet transfrontalier et visant à promouvoir les produits du tabac.

At the negotiations in Geneva, the European Union is pushing for imposing appropriate international restrictions on all forms of advertising, marketing, promotion and sponsorship of tobacco products.
