Most Member States have taken initiatives to raise awareness about Roma culture and history; in particular, in recent years, a growing number have organised activities to commemorate the Roma Holocaust.

2. Calls on the Member States and on the countries of the Western Balkans to properly remember the twentieth anniversary of the Srebrenica-Potočari act of genocide by supporting the establishment of the 11 July as the day of commemoration of the Srebrenica genocide across the EU; encourages the Member States to support NGO initiatives in order to ensure that the commemorations are on an appropriate scale; welcomes the seriousness and earnestness of the memorial day in the United Kingdom led by a proper collaboration between national authorities and the NGO ‘Remembering Srebrenica’;
2. invite les États membres et les pays des Balkans occidentaux à célébrer le vingtième anniversaire de l'acte de génocide de de Srebrenica-Potočari en soutenant l'institution du 11 juillet comme journée de commémoration dans toute l'Union du génocide de Srebrenica; encourage les États membres à soutenir les initiatives d'organisations non gouvernementales en vue de donner aux commémorations le retentissement qui convient; salue la gravité et la ferveur de la journée du souvenir au Royaume-Uni grâce à une collaboration exemplaire entre les autorités nationales et l'association Remembering Srebrenica;

F. whereas the changes in Turkish society since the beginning of the 21 century and reforms paving the way for the opening of the EU accession negotiations created conditions for a more open and free debate on historical issues in Turkey, including the Armenian issue; whereas numerous civil society initiatives and cultural exchanges between Turkey and Armenia developed as a result; whereas a number of Turkish NGOs and intellectuals are preparing to publicly commemorate the 100 anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in Istanbul;
F. considérant que l'évolution de la société turque depuis le début de XXI siècle et les réformes qui ont posé les jalons de l'ouverture des négociations pour l'adhésion à l'Union ont créé les conditions propices à un débat plus ouvert et libre sur l'histoire de la Turquie, notamment sur la question arménienne; que les initiatives de la société civile et les échanges culturels entre la Turquie et l'Arménie se sont multipliés en conséquence; que plusieurs ONG et intellectuels turcs se préparent à commémorer publiquement le centenaire du génocide arménien à Istanbul;

6. Takes the view that the 100-year commemoration of the Armenian Genocide in 2015 represents an important opportunity for Turkey to come to terms with its past; calls in this regard on the Turkish authorities to open all archives that will provide historians, academics and researchers with the opportunity to shed light on those tragic events and to start a genuinely transparent public debate with a view to recognising the Genocide; welcomes the steps taken recently by some Turkish intellectuals and NGOs, and reiterates its call on Turkey to normalise relations and establish diplomatic relations with Armenia; likewise supports civil society initiatives between Turkey and Armenia working towards the normalisation of relations;
6. est d'avis que la commémoration du centenaire du génocide arménien en 2015 représente une occasion importante pour la Turquie d'assumer son passé; à cet égard, demande aux autorités turques d'ouvrir toutes les archives afin de permettre aux historiens, aux universitaires et aux chercheurs de faire la lumière sur ces événements tragiques et d'engager un débat public en toute transparence en vue de reconnaître ce génocide; se félicite des mesures prises récemment par plusieurs intellectuels et ONG turcs, et invite à nouveau la Turquie à normaliser ses relations et à établir des relations diplomatiques avec l'Arménie; de même, soutient les initiatives de la société civile menées entre la Turquie et l'Arménie en vue de la normalisation de leurs relations;

Funds may be made available for initiatives to reflect on the causes of totalitarian regimes in Europe's modern history (especially but not exclusively Nazism which led to the Holocaust, Fascism, Stalinism and totalitarian communist regimes) and to commemorate the victims of their crimes.
