Deeply regrets the loss of life among protesters and police, the excessive use of force by police and the violent acts by some marginal groups; takes the view that the protests in Gezi Park testify both to the existence in Turkey of a vibrant civil society and to the need for further vital dialogue and reforms, as a matter of urgency, on the promotion of fundamental values; considers regrettable the apparent failure of the courts to penalise all those state officials and police officers responsible for excessive violence, loss of life, and serious injuries to Gezi Park protesters, and therefore welcomes the ongoing administrative investigations (launched by the Ministry of the Interior), the judicial investigations and the inquiries by the Ombudsman into complaints relating to the events in Gezi Park, as a new opportunity to show full commitment to the rule of law and bring those responsible to justice; expects these investigations and inquiries to address the concerns fully and without delay; calls on Turkey to adopt adequate internal review procedures and to establish an independent supervisory body for police offences; takes the view that the Gezi Park events underline the need for far-reaching reforms in order to ensure respect for freedom of assembly; encourages the Ministry of the Interior and the police to establish methods for dealing with public protests in a more restrained way and calls on them, in particular, not to arrest or hinder the work of medical staff, lawyers and other professionals ensuring the basic rights of protesters; is concerned about the action taken against health professionals, lawyers, academics, students and professional associations in connection with their non-violent actions during the Gezi events;

Last night, right here on Parliament Hill, parliamentarians and members of Canada's very professional public service were invited to a special panel discussion on a timely topic: evidence versus ideology of Canadian public policy. What I would suggest is that there are groups we can have come forward an organization that comes to mind is the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police who may be able to deal with issues like that, or the Canadian association of professional police, I think they're called now, who could deal with some of the policing aspects.

Whereas the Directive makes reference to “the authorities responsible for combating money laundering” to which reports of suspicious operations must be made; whereas in the case of independent lawyers and to take proper account of the professional duty of discretion owed by the lawyer to his client Member States should be allowed to nominate the bar association or other lawyers" professional organisation as the responsible authority; whereas the rules governing the treatment of such reports and their possible onward transmission to the police or judicial authorities and in general the appropriate forms of co-operation between the bar associations or professional bodies and the authorities responsible for combating money laundering shall be determined by the Member States;

The programme shall co-finance projects of a maximum duration of two years presented by public or private institutions and bodies, including professional organisations, non-governmental organisations, associations, organisations representing business, research and basic and further training institutes (such as universities or police academies) , and law enforcement services in the Member States and the applicant countries; the projects shall be directed at the target groups set out in paragraph 2.
