The objective is twofold: on the one hand, enabling the European industry (e.g. chemical, health, mining, energy, pulp and paper, fibre-based products and wood, textile, starch, and food processing industries) to develop new products and processes meeting industrial and societal demands using preferably environmentally friendly and sustainable production methods and competitive and enhanced biotechnology-based alternatives to replace established ones; on the other hand, harnessing the potential of biotechnology for detecting, monitoring, preventing and removing pollution.
L'objectif est double: d'une part, permettre à l'industrie européenne (dans les domaines de la chimie, de la santé, de l'extraction minière, de l'énergie, du papier et de la pâte à papier, des produits à base de fibres et du bois, du textile, de l'amidon, et des industries de la transformation alimentaire, par exemple) de développer de nouveaux produits et procédés répondant aux exigences industrielles et sociétales, de préférence au moyen de méthodes de production respectueuses de l'environnement et durables, et des produits de substitution compétitifs et améliorés à base biotechnologique pour remplacer les produits bien établis; d'autre part, exploiter le potentiel des biotechnologies en matière de détection, de suivi, de prévention et d'élimination de la pollution.
