The other framework that we have with the automobile producers is a memorandum of understanding between the North American motor vehicle manufacturers, represented by the Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association, and the major offshore manufacturers to discuss the process and mechanisms by which we can implement a whole range of policies including energy efficiency, the incorporation of technology, help in training drivers, and the applications of alternative-fuel vehicles.

The Association of International Automobile Manufacturers of Canada and the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers' Association jointly wrote, “CP Rail plays a vital role in the shipment of both parts and components into Ontario vehicle manufacturing facilities, as well as a significant role in the shipment and distribution of finished vehicles from ports of entry to local dealerships across the country.The integrated North American auto industry is presently experiencing a positive but fragile economic recovery”.

6. Stresses the importance of concluding bilateral free trade agreements between the EU and – in particular – South American and Asian growth economies in the context of increased growth and freedom to compete on an international stage under mutually recognised, transparent and fair conditions; recognises that free trade agreements not only enable each of the parties to benefit from economies of scale but also create the opportunity for the EU to focus on the knowledge and manufacturing industries in which it has a competitive advantage on the world market; considers that these free trade agreements can help boost both the quantity and quality of products and services on the world market, and that this is specially necessary in the light of Europe’s demographic challenges;
