14 (1) Except as otherwise permitted by the Act, the Freshwater Fish Marketing Act (Canada), the Fisheries Act (Manitoba) or regulations made under those Acts, no person shall possess any species of fish set out in an item of Part II of Schedule XI in an amount that exceeds the possession quota, or of a size that does not comply with the size limit, set out in that item.

Established in 1969 under the authority of the federal Freshwater Fish Marketing Act as a Crown corporation, the FFMC was created to: market fish in an orderly manner; promote markets and export trade in fish; and improve returns to fishers while operating on a self-sustaining basis without appropriations by Parliament ([7]) Modelled after the Canadian Wheat Board, the FFMC regulates the interprovincial and export trade of commercially caught freshwater fish in the three Prairie Provinces, the Northwest Territories, and parts of northwestern Ontario.

I am informed that the Government of the Northwest Territories—and the NWT is the main customer of the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation from Great Slave Lake—after the December 9, 2010 vote of the fishers—and there were not a lot; it was seventeen to nine as Senator Manning has said—to remain with the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation, the responsible minister in the Northwest Territories, the Hon. Robert McLeod, said that they would respect the vote of the fishermen and that the Government of the Northwest Territories would not repeal the NWT Freshwater Fish Marketing Act to withdraw from the federal marketing system.

The Commission shall be empowered to adopt delegated acts in accordance with Article 40 to amend the standard wording in Part A of Annex II or the instructions in Part B thereof to address the need for information or warnings concerning new products that were not marketed before Such delegated acts shall however not change the structure or format of the ESIS .
