The Council also noted that the Union supports the development of the countries of the region within the framework of the substantial support for the Mediterranean Region as a whole under the Union's Redirected Mediterranean Policy, which amounts to ECU 4,5 billion in the years 1992- 1996. The Council recalled that some Member States had already been asked to participate in the temporary international presence in Hebron. Against this background, the Council adopted a joint action in support of the Middle East Peace Process (see Annex).
