I. whereas members of the Supreme Court have openly rejected the principle of separation of powers, publicly pledged their commitment to advancing the government’s political agenda, and repeatedly ruled in favour of the government, validating its disregard for human rights; whereas in December 2014 the pro-government majority in the National Assembly appointed 12 new members to the Supreme Court through a simple majority vote after failing to obtain a two-thirds majority, for which a consensus with the opposition would have been necessary;

L. considérant que Daech, dans le cadre d'une politique délibérée d'épuration culturelle et religieuse, aurait détruit plus de 100 églises en Iraq et au moins 6 en Syrie, sans compter plusieurs mosquées chiites en Iraq; qu'en février 2015, des combattants de Daech ont délibérément donné un large écho à la destruction dans le musée de Mossoul de statues et de symboles datant des anciens empires assyrien et akkadien; que Daech a ensuite rasé au bulldozer l'ancienne cité assyrienne de Nimrud et que, tout dernièrement, on lui impute la destruction du site de Hatra, classé au patrimoine mondial de l'Unesco; que le régime syrien aurait pilonné des églises dans des quartiers tenus par l'opposition, par exemple à Homs en 2012 et à Idlib en 2013;
L. whereas as part of a deliberate policy of cultural and religious cleansing, IS has reportedly destroyed more than 100 churches in Iraq, and at least 6 churches in Syria, as well as a number of Shia mosques in Iraq; whereas in February 2015, IS fighters deliberately publicised their destruction of statues and other artefacts in the Mosul Museum dating back to the ancient Assyrian and Akkadian empires; whereas IS subsequently bulldozed the ancient Assyrian city of Nimrud and, most recently, it reportedly destroyed the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hatra; whereas the Syrian regime has reportedly shelled churches in opposition neighbourhoods, for example in Homs in 2012 and Idlib in 2013;

Chrétien (Saint-Maurice): Monsieur le Président, j'ai compris que nous allons trop vite, que nous sommes trop efficaces, que nous voulons faire des changements, que nous ne voulons pas du statu quo, que nous voulons donner la dignité du travail à tous les citoyens et que l'opposition préfère le statu quo.
Mr. Chrétien (Saint-Maurice): Mr. Speaker, I understood that we are going too fast, that we are too efficient, that we want to make changes, that we do not want the status quo, that we want to give the dignity of work to all citizens while the opposition prefers to maintain the status quo.
