Welcomes the fact that the definition of CSR set out in the Commission communication, which reflects the new approach first adopted by the Commission in the Multi-stakeholder Forum in 2009, provides an indispensable opportunity for inclusion and consensus-building, and properly reflects the new consensus reached between business and other stakeholders on this issue thanks to the unanimous agreement of the UN Guiding Principles and other instruments such as the ISO 26000 guidance standard on social responsibility; welcomes the integration of social, environmental, ethical and human rights concerns into business operations; insists that the Commission must differentiate more between: (1) charitable acts by businesses; (2) social acts by businesses based on laws, rules and international standards; and (3) anti-social acts by businesses which violate laws, rules and international standards and are criminal and exploitative, such as child or forced labour, and which should be strongly condemned;

In 2007, when the international community was unable to negotiate a legally binding instrument on cluster munitions in the traditional UN forum for such discussions, the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons, Norway, with strong support from five other states, led a process outside of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons, much like Canada had done with the Ottawa process 10 years earlier.

(Return tabled) Question No. 135 Ms. Alexa McDonough: With regard to the death of Canadian citizen Zahra Kazemi in Iran: (a) what specific actions, if any, have the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, the Department of Citizenship and Immigration, the Department of Justice and the Prime Minister’s Office undertaken in Iran, at the United Nations and within other multilateral forums since the government was first notified of Ms. Kazemi’s arrest in Iran; and (b) what specific recommendations, if any, have the Prime Minister and Ministers of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Citizenship and Immigration, and Justice received from departmental experts, with regard to proposed actions the government may take in Iran, at the United Nations, and within other multilateral forums to ensure (i) that a full and accountable investigation into Ms. Kazemi’s death took place, (ii) that the perpetrators were tried in a fair and transparent trial, and (iii) that her remains were returned to her family in Canada for a full forensic examination and burial?

Mr. Robert Pilon: Mr. Paquette, this is an extremely complex issue, but in the cultural circles in Canada, I believe that a consensus has emerged recently to the effect that and this is the coalition's point of view, as you can see by reading our mission statement that these issues should not be discussed at international trade fora, to start with, but rather in a separate forum, in another forum.

Le Forum national sur le cancer du sein, qui a eu lieu à Montréal du 14 au 16 novembre 1993, avait pour but de déterminer les priorités et les orientations visant la prévention du cancer du sein, son dépistage, son traitement, les soins dispensés à ses victimes, la recherche et d'autres questions concernant l'aide aux survivants, la défense de leurs intérêts et l'établissement de réseaux à leur intention.
The national forum on breast cancer was held in Montreal on November 14 to 16, 1993 to determine priorities and directions in the areas of breast cancer prevention, screening, treatment, care, research as well as address issues relevant to survivors support, advocacy and networking.
