Je dirai à Mme Maes en particulier que si le Conseil et la Commission n'ont pas voulu prendre de mesures d'urgence, comme certains dans ce Parlement l'auraient peut-être souhaité, c'est en partie en raison du risque éventuel que Mugabe se cherche une excuse pour décréter un état d'urgence au Zimbabwe de façon à pouvoir annuler les élections, stopper le processus démocratique et réprimer l'opposition officielle ainsi que toute autre opposition émanant de la presse et des médias.
I would say to Mrs Maes in particular that one of the reasons the Council and the Commission have not wanted to take urgent action, as some in this Parliament would perhaps have wanted, is the danger that what Mugabe wants is an excuse to call a state of emergency in Zimbabwe so he can cancel the election, stop the democratic process and stifle the official opposition as well as any opposition from the press and media.
