(Return tabled) Question No. 611 Ms. Kirsty Duncan: With respect to the government’s plans for resource development, as described in the section entitled “Responsible Resource Development” in Chapter 3.2 of Budget 2012: (a) what are all examples of federal environmental laws that are stronger than provincial laws and how will the proposed legislative changes to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA) affect the assessment of environmental impacts of industrial projects that cross provincial borders; (b) what research, action, or investment has the government undertaken to study impacts of the proposed legislative changes to the CEAA on (i) regulatory decision-making, (ii) risk of project-specific and cumulative environmental impacts, (iii) risk mitigation by developers, (iv) Canada’s reputation; (c) what briefing notes, memos, or any other documentation, including, for each, the details of its findings and recommendations, have been provided to the Prime Minister, Minister of Natural Resources, Minister of the Environment, their respective Parliamentary Secretaries, their respective Deputy Ministers, and their respective staff members, regarding impacts of the proposed legislative changes to the CEAA on (i) regulatory decision-making, (ii) risk of project-specific and cumulative environmental impacts, (iii) mitigation by developers, (iv) Canada’s reputation; (d) will the proposed legislative changes to the CEAA give any consideration to (i) measuring negative impacts of development, (ii) managing negative impacts of development; (e) by what date will the government bring forth new “legislation to streamline the review process for major economic projects” (Budget 2012, p. 89); (f) what are the projected costs of changes to the CEAA for each province and territory; (g) what assessments of the adequacy of the environmental assessment process in each province and territory have been conducted, (i) what were the dates of any such assessments, (ii) what wer ...

Il s’agit d’un travail évolutif et la Commission fera rapport tous les trois ans sur la mise en œuvre de l’initiative.

It provides an update on federal initiatives, such as the FCRO, Human Resources and Skills Development Canada's foreign credential recognition program, Health Canada's internationally educated health professionals initiative, and Service Canada's toll-free telephone and in-person services to immigrants and Canadian citizens who have earned their professional credentials abroad.

Le rapporteur souligne une fois des plus les possibilités qu'offre l'ERTMS au secteur ferroviaire et espère que le présent rapport d'initiative fera avancer le débat au sein du Parlement européen et contribuera à ce que le Parlement affirme clairement, de son côté, qu'il opte pour l'ERTMS au niveau de l'UE.
The rapporteur would point once again to the opportunities that ERTMS offers for the rail industry and hopes that, through this own-initiative report, he can advance the parliamentary debate and help ensure that Parliament contributes its share to the necessary commitment to ERTMS at EU level.

Le présent rapport ne fera sans doute pas exception. Le rapporteur estime que le niveau de séparation dans certains États membres est insuffisant. Il se félicite donc de l'initiative de la Commission prévoyant d'accroître les obligations en la matière.
The Rapporteur believes that the current level of unbundling in some Member States is insufficient and therefore welcomes the Commission’s initiative to increase obligations in this field.

Je voudrais une fois encore remercier Christopher Beazley pour son rapport d’initiative. J’espère que ce thème fera l’objet d’un débat entre les États membres, étant donné que ce sont eux qui sont chargés de déterminer les thèmes et l’organisation de l’éducation, un aspect de l’éducation qui ne sera pas jugé superflu, mais bien fortement complémentaire dans l’espace culturel, économique et juridique unique d’une Europe élargie.
I would like to thank Christopher Beazley again for this own-initiative report and to express the hope that this topic may become a subject of debate among the Member States, for it is they that are responsible for determining the subject matter and organisation of education, something that will not be regarded as superfluous but rather as a highly important complementary aspect of education here in the single legal, economic and cultural space of an enlarged Europe.

Strongly welcomes the initiative taken by World Bank President Mr Wolfensohn to scrutinise the extractive industries sector and hopes that the World Bank Group will demonstrate its commitment to sustainable development by giving due consideration to the EIR report's recommendations this fiscal year and, where appropriate, by setting up a process for their implementation through changes to existing WBG policies and standards and development of new policies and procedures, with clear benchmarks and timetables and a fully resourced team; considers that the implementation process should be transparent and that the WBG should provide quarterly progress reports to the board, Member States and the public at large;
