Your Committee, to which was referred the motion of the Honourable Senator Carstairs, P.C., that the Senate do not insist on its amendment numbered 1(a) to Bill C-15A, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and to amend other Acts, to which the House of Commons has disagreed; and that a message be sent to the House of Commons to acquaint that House accordingly, has, in obedience to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, May 7, 2002, examined the said motion and Message and now reports as follows:

- (EL) Monsieur le Président, Madame Wallström, Monsieur Diamandouros, Mesdames et Messieurs, je voudrais, avant toute chose, féliciter le rapporteur, mon honorable ami Andreas Schwab, pour l’effort extraordinaire auquel il a consenti dans son rapport afin d’illustrer l’importance majeure que revêt d’année en année l’institution du Médiateur européen pour les citoyens européens, grâce au travail accompli par ce dernier.
– (EL) Mr President, Madam Wallström, Mr Diamandouros, ladies and gentlemen, I should like, first of all, to congratulate the rapporteur, my honourable friend Andreas Schwab, on the extraordinary effort he has made in his report to illustrate that, year on year, the institution of the European Ombudsman is becoming extremely important to European citizens, thanks to the work being carried out by the European Ombudsman.

Considérant que ce devoir doit être pris au sérieux, la Commission a octroyé au fonctionnaire auquel se réfère l'honorable parlementaire dans sa question huit semaines de congés payés ainsi qu'un bureau sécurisé afin de lui permettre de rédiger son rapport.
