Toutefois, dans le règlement (CE) n° 1083/2006 du Conseil, portant dispositions générales sur le Fonds européen de développement régional, le Fonds social européen et le Fonds de cohésion, 7750 millions d’euros sont réservés à l’objectif de coopération territoriale européenne, par lequel les activités relevant de l’initiative communautaire Interreg seront poursuivies dans la précédente période de financement.
However, in Council Regulation (EC) No 1083/2006 laying down general provisions on the European Regional Development Fund, the European Social Fund, and the Cohesion Fund, EUR 7750 million has been set aside for the European territorial cooperation objective, whereby activities falling within the scope of the INTERREG Community initiative will be continued in the next funding period.

Cependant, étant donné la valeur ajoutée communautaire évidente de la précédente initiative Interreg et le large soutien qui lui fut manifesté lors du grand débat préalable à la réforme de la politique de cohésion, la Commission a proposé que le 3 objectif de la politique de cohésion réformée après 2007 soit consacré à la coopération territoriale, pour ses composantes transfrontalières et transnationales.
However, in view of the obvious 'Community value added' characterising the previous INTERREG initiative and the considerable support given to it in the 'great debate' that preceded the reform of cohesion policy, the Commission has proposed that the third objective of the reformed cohesion policy after 2007 should be devoted to territorial cooperation in the context of its crossborder and transnational components.

Le fait que ces régions, dont l'esprit de coopération transfrontalière a déjà fait ses preuves lors de la précédente initiative INTERREG II, ont décidé d'intensifier leur coopération dans le cadre du nouveau programme constitue à mes yeux un progrès essentiel.
I consider it an important step forward that these areas, which have proved their cross-border spirit already under the previous INTERREG II initiative, have decided to enhance their co-operation under the new programme.

Je souhaite à ce nouvel organisme de réussir dans tout ce qu'il entreprendra et je juge très positif le fait que ces régions, dont l'esprit de coopération a fait ses preuves à l'occasion des précédentes initiatives INTERREG, ont résolu de poursuivre leur coopération au titre du troisième programme consécutif.
