Fin 2001, l'état d'avancement des projets prioritaires d'Essen était le suivant: six projets prioritaires étaient achevés (les cinq projets gaziers et l'interconnexion électrique entre le Portugal et l'Espagne), un projet prioritaire était en phase de mise en oeuvre (interconnexion électrique entre l'Italie et la Grèce) et trois autres en phase de redéfinition ou d'autorisation (interconnexion électrique entre la France et l'Espagne, la France et l'Italie et entre l'est et l'ouest du Danemark).
By the end of 2001, the state of play with the Essen priority projects was as follows: six priority projects were completed (the five gas projects and the Portugal-Spain electricity link), one priority project was being implemented (the Italy-Greece electricity link) and three priority projects were in the redefinition/authorisation phases (the France-Spain, France-Italy and East-West Denmark electricity links).

One project became operational (connection between northern Portugal and Spain) and a second project is in the active construction phase (the Italy - Greece interconnection). The three other projects have not overcome the difficulties facing them as regards administrative authorisations (for the France - Italy and France - Spain projects) or as regards viability/financing (for the connection between eastern and western Denmark).

The CESEC ongoing priority gas projects are: the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (gas pipeline from Greece to Italy via Albania and the Adriatic sea); the Interconnector between Greece and Bulgaria; the Interconnector between Bulgaria and Serbia; the reinforcement of the Bulgarian transmission system; the reinforcement of the Romanian transmission system (part of the "BRUA" corridor); the LNG terminal in Krk, Croatia; and the LNG evacuation system towards Hungary.

34 Stresses the importance of significantly increasing interconnection between Spain and France to support the renewables in the region and to enable the Iberian Peninsula to participate fully in the internal electricity market; considers the Madrid Declaration, signed on 4 March 2015, and the establishment of a High Level Group on Interconnections for South-West Europe, as important steps towards increasing the region’s interconnectivity; acknowledges that the current interconnection capacity between the Iberian Peninsula and mainland Europe is too low, and that the projects included in the current PCI list are not sufficient to achieve the interconnection target in 2020; calls on the countries of the region to support the development of their considerable renewable energy potential and to facilitate the access of the sector to the integrated European market;

28. constate que les interconnexions prévues devraient permettre aux États baltes d'atteindre l'objectif de 10 % d'ici à la fin 2015; s'inquiète du fait que les réseaux des États baltes sont encore synchronisés avec le système électrique russe et dépendent de celui-ci, ce qui constitue un obstacle à une véritable intégration et au bon fonctionnement du marché européen de l'électricité; demande que les réseaux d'électricité des États baltes soient rapidement synchronisés avec le réseau du continent européen, afin d'assurer l'intégration complète du marché intérieur de l'électricité, une plus grande sécurité de l'approvisionnement en électricité et un fonctionnement sécurisé du système; demande aux États membres concernés de prendre les mesures nécessaires pour amorcer une procédure formelle afin d'étendre le réseau synchrone du continent européen aux États baltes et appelle le REGRT-E à lancer cette procédure; invite la Commission à appuyer et à suivre la mise en œuvre de ce projet; prend le marché commun nordique de l'électricité comme un exemple de bonne pratique pour la coopération entre les États membres en ce qui concerne la création et la mise en place d'un marché intérieur de l'électricité; estime qu'il est important de renforcer les interconnexions entre la Pologne et le marché nordique de l'électricité si l'on veut que la Pologne atteigne son objectif de 10 %; se félicite de la signature du protocole d'accord concernant le renforcement du plan d'interconnexion des marchés énergétiques de la région de la Baltique (PIMERB); souligne que la coopération régionale par l'intermédiaire du PIMERB se poursuit et que la solidarité entre les États membres dans la mise en œuvre des projets d'intérêt commun est davantage renforcée;
28. Notes that planned interconnectors are expected to allow the Baltic States to reach the 10 % goal by the end of 2015; is concerned that the Baltic states’ networks are still synchronised with, and dependent on, the Russian electricity system, which is an impediment for a truly integrated and properly functioning European electricity market; calls for a rapid synchronisation of the Baltic States’ electricity networks with the Continental European Network in order to ensure full integration in the internal electricity market, a higher security of electricity supply and secure system operation; asks the concerned Member States to take the necessary steps to initiate, and ENTSO-E to launch, a formal procedure for the extension of the synchronous Continental European Network towards the Baltic states; invites the Commission to support and monitor the implementation of this project; highlights the common Nordic power market as a best practice for cooperation among Member States in creating and developing the internal electricity market; acknowledges the importance of higher interconnectivity between Poland and the Nordic electricity market if Poland is to reach its 10 % target; welcomes the signature of the Memorandum of Understanding on reinforced Baltic Energy Market Interconnection Plan (BEMIP); underlines that regional cooperation through BEMIP shall continue and that solidarity between Member States in implementing PCIs is further enhanced;

21. est conscient que la sensibilisation et le soutien du public sont essentiels pour garantir une mise en œuvre rapide des projets d'interconnexion; souligne que les processus transparents et inclusifs et les normes environnementales les plus élevées ne doivent pas être mis à mal lors de la construction de nouvelles lignes électriques; invite les promoteurs de projets à utiliser les meilleures technologies disponibles pour les nouvelles interconnexions visant à renforcer la cohérence entre les investissements dans les réseaux, la viabilité environnementale et l'acceptation au niveau local;
21. Recognises that public awareness and support is essential to ensure fast implementation of interconnector projects; acknowledges that transparent and inclusive processes, and highest environmental standards, must not be undermined when building new power lines; calls on the project promoters to use BAT for new interconnectors aiming to enhance coherence between project investments in the grids, environmental sustainability and local acceptance;

Pourraient notamment bénéficier de cet appui: les nouveaux réseaux gaziers et les projets de connexion entre l'Afrique du Nord et l'Europe, ainsi que l'interconnexion des réseaux électriques et la coopération entre le Maroc, l'Algérie et la Tunisie; le gazoduc reliant l'Égypte à la Turquie et à l'UE via la Jordanie, le Liban et la Syrie; l'interconnexion des réseaux électriques entre Israël et les territoires palestiniens; l'élaboration d'un avant-projet de réseau de transport intermodal sous-régional pour la région du Maghreb et du Proche-Orient, comportant notamment l'interconnexion des infrastructures routières et ferroviaires et le transport maritime; l'amélioration des points de passage aux frontières et des liaisons entre les ports et leur hinterland.
Possibilities include new gas networks and connection projects between North Africa and Europe, as well as electricity interconnections and cooperation between Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia; a gas pipeline from Egypt through Jordan, Lebanon, Syria to Turkey and the EU; electricity interconnections between Israel and Palestinian territories; development of a blueprint for sub-regional inter-modal transport networks in the Maghreb and in the Near East, including rail and road infrastructure interconnections and maritime transport; improvements at border crossings and ports-hinterland connections.
