− (EN) Madame la Présidente, mon collègue Olli Rehn a déjà exprimé la position et les condoléances de la Commission en ce qui concerne le drame grec; alors permettez-moi d’examiner comment nous pourrions avancer dans notre travail car cela sera d’une importance majeure pour faire aboutir le système de protection des droits fondamentaux au sein de l’Union. L’adhésion de l’Union à la Convention européenne de sauvegarde des droits de l’homme, prévue par le traité de Lisbonne, n’est plus une question de choix.
− Madam President, my colleague Olli Rehn has already expressed the position and the condolences of the Commission concerning the Greek disaster, so let me just look at how we can advance with our work because this will be of the utmost importance for completing the system of protection of fundamental rights within the Union, and the accession of the EU to the European Convention on Human Rights, which is enshrined in the Lisbon Treaty, is not an option.
