The Commission has reserved its position on the proposed extension in the system of regional preferences on public procurement contracts in favour of the Mezzogiorno and has reserved its position on the operation of the present system pending the outcome of more general discussions on this aspect of public procurement policy.

L'investissement total prévu est de 2.103 MECU (soit peu plus de 4 mille milliards de Lit) avec un concours communautaire de 967 MECU (presque 2 mille milliards de Lit. dont la répartition par fonds communautaire est la suivant: FEDER 415 MECU 43 % FEOGA 333 MECU 34 % FSE 219 MECU 23 % M. MILLAN a affirmé: "Je suis heureux de pouvoir annoncer aujourd'hui le premier programme de mise en oeuvre de la politique structurelle communautaire dans le Mezzogiorno. J'attends des autorités italiennes un effort accru pour accélerer la soumission et l'amélioration des programmes opérationnels déjà présentés de manière à éviter les retards qui ont caractérisé les premières années de la période 1989-93. Les ressources financières mises à disposition par l'Union européenne ont augmenté très considérablement, et le Mezzogiorno doit pouvoir en bénéficier rapidement, de manière à pouvoir profiter de meilleures conditions économiques sur des bases solides et durables". Voici les détails de ce programme: I. Le volet FEDER comprend 5 sous-programmes 1. Communications L'investissement le plus important concerne l'amélioration de la route 125, située sur la côte Est et qui est de grande importance pour le développement économique, touristique et social de cette partie de l'île. La Communauté participera aussi au financement des deux "metro leger" de Cagliari et Sassari (Ce sous-programme représente 32 % du coût total de la partie FEDER).
The total investment planned is ECU 2 103 million (just over LIT 4 000 billion), to which the Community will contribute ECU 967 million (almost LIT 2 000 billion). Communications The largest investment item is improvement of road SS-125 on the east coast, which is of great importance for the economic and social development of this part of the island and for tourism. The Community will also provide some finance for the light railway systems in Cagliari and Sassari (This sub-programme accounts for 32% of the total cost of the ERDF section).
