Dans le cadre de ses propres compétences, la Commission a beaucoup fait pour faciliter l'adaptation des douaniers à la nouvelle dimension du grand marché, notamment par : 1. Une série de dispositions législatives, en particulier l'adoption d'un Code des douanes communautaires. 2. Une série de dispositions concrètes : - la réalisation de nouveaux systèmes informatiques de communication entre les douanes des Etats membres; - l'ouverture de bureaux de douane supplémentaires aux frontières extérieures; - le renforcement de la collaboration entre les administrations douanières et fiscales; - la modernisation des méthodes de travail, visant notamment un meilleur ciblage des contrôles physiques et documentaires.
Within its own sphere of competence, the Commission has done a great deal to help customs officers adjust to the new dimension of the single market, especially through: 1. a series of legislative provisions, in particular the adoption of a Community Customs Code; 2. a series of specific measures: - creation of new computerised communications systems between the Member States' customs services; - opening of additional customs offices at external borders; - strengthening of cooperation between customs and fiscal authorities; - modernisation of working methods geared to improved targeting of physical and documentary checks.
