Même si c'est là une perspective bien alléchante pour un Président de la Chambre, j'ose à peine imaginer les objections que pourraient soulever les députés si l'on interjetait appel devant moi pour faire changer le libellé des rapports en vue de les rendre plus ou moins acceptables pour moi, plutôt que pour le comité, ou peut-être même pour la Chambre. Le débat sur le rapport du comité pourrait ainsi se prolonger en Chambre parce que j'ai modifié le libellé en fonction des intentions que je prête au comité ou pour en arriver à ce que je crois être un meilleur rapport.
Tempting as it is for a Speaker to become a court of appeal of committee decisions, I can only imagine the objections hon. members would make if there were appeals to me to change the wording in reports and make them more or less acceptable to me rather than to the committee, or perhaps even possibly to the House, thereby furthering debate in the House on a committee report because I changed the words to suit what I thought was the intention of the committee or what I thought would be a better report.
