Afin de venir en aide au peuple meurtri du Timor-Oriental, afin également de fournir une preuve supplémentaire de sa capacité d'assumer un rôle positif quant à la sécurité en Asie de l'Est, l'UE doit s'interroger, dans les plus brefs délais, sur la manière pour elle de contribuer à une transition pacifique, au Timor-Oriental, de l'occupation indonésienne actuelle à un nouvel ordre politique, économique et social, qui soit viable.
For the sake of the battered people of East Timor and also with a view to give further evidence of its capacity to play a constructive role in East Asian security matters, the EU should as a matter of urgency study how it can give its contribution to a peaceful transition from the present Indonesian occupation to a new and viable political, economic and social order in East Timor.
