Le fait que le prochain cycle des fonds structurels 2000-2006 comprenne l'initiative Interreg prouve, je pense, très clairement l'importance que les États membres nationaux de l'UE y attachent.
The fact that the next round of Structural Funds 2000-2006 includes the INTERREG initiative is I believe, a very clear indication of the importance which is attached to it by national EU Member States.

Je considère comme un atout important le fait que trois programmes germano-néerlandais, qui ont prouvé leur esprit transfrontalier avant même le lancement de l'initiative INTERREG, aient décidé de collaborer à l'avenir dans le cadre d'une structure de programme commune.
I consider it an important asset that three German-Dutch programmes, which have proved their cross-border spirit even before the INTERREG initiative was launched, have decided to work under a common programme structure in the future.

My conclusion regarding INTERREG, Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, is that these Community initiatives for which I am responsible fulfil a real need and everything that has been said is proof of this. They also foreshadow a real European regional planning policy within our enlarged Union.
