10. Calls therefore, on the Commission and Member States urgently to take steps, in line with Parliament’s position set out in its resolution of 8 July 2008 on the environmental impact of the planned gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea to link up Russia and Germany, to ensure that projects under the Action Plan properly assess and mitigate the negative environmental effects of the gas pipeline scheme; also considers that Nord Stream itself must be responsible for financing the measures needed to ensure that the Baltic Sea environment is not harmed as a result of the construction of the gas pipeline; calls, at the same time, for projects which are unnecessary because they can be carried out on land to be avoided in future;

6. demande qu'une attention particulière soit accordée à la protection environnementale dans le contexte de la mise en œuvre du projet Nord Stream; invite la Commission à faire rapport au Parlement européen, dans l'esprit de sa résolution du 8 juillet 2008, sur la pleine conformité des évaluations d'impact environnemental du projet de gazoduc de la mer Baltique, réalisées au niveau national, avec le droit international en matière d'environnement;

2. Les États membres veillent à ce que le nombre d’animaux utilisés dans les projets soit réduit au minimum sans compromettre les objectifs du projet.

L’article 8 de la décision n° 1692/96 dispose que, lors du développement et de la réalisation des projets, les États membres doivent tenir compte de la protection de l'environnement en réalisant des évaluations de l'impact environnemental des projets d'intérêt commun à mettre en œuvre, conformément à la directive 85/337/CEE, et en appliquant la directive 92/43/CEE.
In article 8 of the guidelines 1692/96 it says that when projects are developed and carried out, environmental protection must be taken into account by the Member States through the execution of environmental impact assessments (EIA) of projects of common interest which are to be implemented, pursuant to Directive 85/337/EEC and through the application of Directive 92/43/EEC.
