(Return tabled) Question No. 985 Mr. Pierre Dionne Labelle: With regard to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC): (a) how many CIC positions will be eliminated in 2012 and subsequent years, broken down by (i) year, (ii) province; (b) how will the Fédération des francophones de la Colombie-Britannique, which co-chaired the CIC’s British Columbia region, fit into the new structure if the British Columbia region disappears; (c) has the impact of merging services for the Atlantic region with the Quebec region been analyzed and, if so, what were the findings; (d) what impact will merging services for the Atlantic and Quebec regions have on francophone immigration; (e) what structures will be implemented to avoid competition between the Atlantic and Quebec regions for francophone immigrants if the decision-making centre is transferred to the province of Quebec; and (f) how will cuts to the Destination Canada Job Fair budget be offset in order to ensure that the Atlantic provinces can continue to attract francophone immigrants in light of competition from the province of Quebec for francophone immigrants?

Nous désirons aborder avec vous aujourd'hui quatre grands thèmes: premièrement, la vision globale de la conférence au regard du dossier de l'immigration francophone au Canada; deuxièmement, le besoin de renforcer les relations intergouvernementales et intragouvernementales au chapitre de l'immigration francophone; troisièmement, le rôle clé de la société civile en matière d'immigration francophone; et quatrièmement, la contribution souhaitée de la conférence pour l'avenir de l'immigration francophone au Canada.
We would like to touch on the following themes with you today: first, the conference's comprehensive vision with respect to the issue of francophone immigration to Canada; second, the need to strengthen intra-governmental and intergovernmental relations with regard to francophone migration; third, the key role of civil society in the area of francophone immigration; and, fourth, the contribution the conference wishes to make to the future of francophone immigration to Canada.

Le gouvernement a ainsi signé une entente de partenariat avec la Société de l'Acadie du Nouveau-Brunswick afin de lui permettre: d'encourager ses membres à participer aux comités locaux francophones sur l'immigration et l'établissement; d'établir un groupe de travail des intervenants communautaires sur l'immigration francophone afin de consulter ces derniers et de recevoir leur avis sur l'immigration francophone; et de participer au groupe de travail francophone sur l'immigration et l'établissement présidé par le Secrétariat de la croissance démographique et composé de représentants de la SANB et des gouvernements fédéral et provincial.
The government has also signed a partnership agreement with the Société de l'Acadie du Nouveau-Brunswick to enable it to: encourage its members to take part in local francophone immigration and settlement committees; establish a working group of francophone community immigration stakeholders to consult stakeholders and gather their opinions on francophone immigration; and take part in the francophone immigration and settlement working group chaired by the Demographic Growth Secretariat, consisting of representatives of the SANB and the federal and provincial governments.

We encourage the Government of Canada to support us in our very close cooperative relationship with our province's economic players; to intervene downstream in the francophone immigration process so that its candidate selection and immigration services reforms take the official language minority communities into account; and, lastly, to work on a community and regional basis in future to promote francophone immigration to small communities.
