Day: Honourable senators, having heard the Honourable Deputy Leader of the Government in the Senate, I feel compelled to say a few words on behalf of the Standing Senate Committee on National Finance, which has been handling the major portion of this particular Bill C-38, to which the government is now asking you to agree to closure.

I understood, and I hope to be corrected, that, in previous sessions of the Senate, the Honourable Deputy Leader of the Government has stood and asked that a rule in respect of Senate committees sitting other than when the Senate is sitting be suspended, but that suspension has not taken place in this session of Parliament and that, therefore, permission to sit may be required even though the Senate is not sitting.
