The question by the honourable Member is whether the Commission has a full picture of emissions of greenhouse gases from road transport and what measures it proposes to reduce the effect on the environment of these emissions.

The proposed Thematic Strategy on the Protection and Conservation of the Marine Environment adopted by the Commission in October 2005 , on which the Parliament completed its first reading on 14 November 2006 on the basis of a report from the Environment Committee prepared by Ms Lienemann and an opinion from the Fisheries prepared by the Honourable Member, will make an essential contribution to the more effective protection of Europe's marine environment.
