Le Conseil a poursuivi également sa discussion sur la situation en Afghanistan et dans la région sur la base des informations de la Présidence et du Haut Représentant Solana sur leurs derniers contacts avec le Secrétaire général des Nations Unies Kofi Annan et son représentant personnel Lakhdar Brahimi et avec l'ancien Roi afghan Zahir Shah, ainsi que d'éléments de réflexion présentés par le SG/HR sur l'Asie centrale.
The Council also continued its discussion on the situation in Afghanistan and the region on the basis of information given by the Presidency and High Representative Solana concerning their most recent contacts with United National Secretary-General Kofi Annan and his personal representative Lakhdar Brahimi and with former Afghan King Zahir Shah, and of considerations put forward by the Secretary-General/High Representative concerning Central Asia.

- (EN) Madame la Présidente, en référence à l'ordre du jour de mercredi et dans la foulée de l'intervention de M. Barón Crespo, je voudrais dire que mardi dernier, deux autres députés de cette Assemblée et moi-même avons eu l'honneur de rencontrer l'ancien roi d'Afghanistan, Mohammed Zahir Chah.
