Au-delà des objectifs de l'agenda du travail décent, la Stratégie de Lisbonne et l'Agenda Social européen offrent un cadre politique bien plus large pour une action résolue en faveur de l'emploi, de l'égalité des chances et de la cohésion sociale.
Beyond the objectives of the decent work agenda, the Lisbon Strategy and the European Social Agenda provide a much broader political framework for resolute action in favour of employment, equal opportunities and social cohesion.

Contribuer activement à la promotion du travail décent fait partie intégrante de l’Agenda social européen et des efforts de l'UE pour projeter ses valeurs et faire partager son expérience et son modèle de développement économique et social intégré[4].
Playing an active part in promoting decent work forms an integral part of the European Social Agenda and of the EU's efforts to promote its values and share its experience and its model of integrated economic and social development[4].

Considers that the Commission gives a good analysis of the problems and tasks facing Europe with a view to preserving and reinforcing the unique European social model; considers that this European Social Agenda must contribute to balanced implementation of the four pillars of the Lisbon Strategy, namely economic coordination, employment policy, social policy and sustainable development;

Considers that the European Social Agenda must contribute to ensuring respect for the fundamental rights enshrined in the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe; proposes, therefore, that the Agenda should provide for the annual monitoring of the safeguarding of fundamental social rights by the Union;

L'Agenda social européen de la Commission, auquel le Conseil européen de Nice a apporté son soutien, a souligné le rôle que peut jouer la responsabilité sociale des entreprises dans la gestion des conséquences de l'intégration de l'économie et des marchés sur l'emploi et le domaine social et pour l'adaptation des conditions de travail à la nouvelle économie.
14. The Commission's European Social Agenda, subsequently supported by the European Council in Nice, emphasised the role of corporate social responsibility in addressing the employment and social consequences of economic and market integration and in adapting working conditions to the new economy.

The honourable Member is also reminded that, in the context of the implementation of the European social agenda, the Nice European Council invited the Commission to involve enterprises in establishing an effective partnership with the social partners, with a view to reinforcing the social responsibility of the former. Non-governmental organisations, local authorities and bodies administering social services were also to be involved. The Stockholm European Council expressed its satisfaction with the initiatives taken by enterprises to promote their corporate social responsibility.

Pareil défi requiert une approche s'inspirant du principe du «triangle» de politiques se renforçant mutuellement (emploi, protection sociale et politique économique et budgétaire), comme esquissé dans l'Agenda social européen approuvé par le sommet de Nice de décembre 2000.
Dealing with such a challenge requires an approach that is inspired by the concept of the "triangle" of mutually reinforcing policies - employment, social protection, and economic and budgetary policy, as outlined in the European Social Agenda adopted at the Nice summit of December 2000.

Afin de rendre la dimension externe de sa politique sociale plus visible, la Commission a organisé en novembre 2001 une conférence intitulée «L'agenda social européen et les partenaires internationaux de l'UE».
To give more visibility to the external dimension of its social policy, the Commission organised in November 2001 a conference "The European Social Agenda and the EU's International Partners".
