L'adjectif « indépendante » pourrait aussi laisser entendre que le gouvernement croit déjà que l'indépendance est une caractéristique essentielle du Sénat, mais comme nous l'avons constaté tout récemment, le Sénat a torpillé de façon tout à fait partisane et non indépendante un projet de loi qui avait été adopté par notre Chambre, donc ce n'est pas le cas.
“Independent” also would imply that the government already believes that an essential characteristic of the Senate is that it be independent. However, as we have experienced most recently, in a non-independent and very partisan way, the Senate has killed legislation that was passed by this House, so that is clearly not what is happening.
