– (ES) Mr President, I am going to talk almost exclusively about the maintenance of the Irish Box, since it illustrates the poles of opinion dividing clearly defined parties; despite this, Parliament’s Committee on Fisheries had managed to adopt a report which I believe clearly combines the interests of the different parties since, on the one hand, it responds to the concern of a majority to protect sensitive areas from irresponsible fishing, and on the other, maintains that it is necessary to eliminate any discrimination suffered by Community fleets of any Member State.

Toutefois, les navires de pêche qui, au cours d'une même sortie, pêchent aussi dans des zones de pêche autres que celles visées au paragraphe 1, peuvent emporter les engins correspondant à leurs activités dans les zones concernées, à condition que les engins se trouvant à bord et dont l'utilisation n'est pas autorisée dans la ou les zone(s) de pêche visées à l'article 19 bis et dans l'"Irish Box" soient rangés de façon à ne pas être facilement utilisables, conformément à l'article 20 paragraphe 1 deuxième alinéa.
2. However, fishing vessels also fishing in fishing areas other than those referred to in paragraph 1 during the same trip may carry gear corresponding to their activities in the areas concerned, provided that gear kept on board and not authorized for use in the fishing area or areas referred to in Article 19a and in the Irish Box is stowed so that it may not be readily used, in accordance with the second subparagraph of Article 20 (1).
