To this end, the smart grid aims to accomplish three things: first, to establish an interactive relationship with the consumer, with two-way flows of energy and information; second, to improve real-time monitoring of grid conditions and implement more rapid diagnosis of problems and solutions; and, third, to avoid cascading failures when outages occur.
